Situation 1- Lots of these free download sites are not too safe when it comes to security-how would you like your beloved Imac or Apple Macbook crippled by a virus, not to mention having your Ipod reduced to a non functioning brick? In the quest for free music downloads it’s sometimes easy to get a little carried away, and that’s what these download sites rely on. Unfortunately their downloads often have lots of spyware and adware in, or even worse on some occasions! It’s also pretty common to download something from one of these sites only to find that it’s not what they claimed it is-this is because they are just trying to access your computer, and probably got all the access they wanted from your download. If you’ve downloaded stuff from a site like that, get your computer checked!
Situation 2- It’s illegal! Why do you think the free download sites are all so shady? They’re often covered in popups, and we already talked about the spyware they try and offload. Do you think legal sites would do that? Let’s get something straight-downloading from P2P sites is illegal. Period. The US government are tightening the laws on this all the time, and yes people do go to jail! Is it worth risking jail just to download a free Ipod song or movie? I don’t think so.
Situation 3- I think it must be really easy to set up an illegal P2P download site, because there are certainly enough of them around. That’s one of the main problems-if you are looking to download a free Ipod song, it can be pretty tough to find the sites which are actually legal-let’s face it, none of the illegal ones are going to mention the fact that they are illegal are they? They basically make money from people clicking on their ads, so they want as many site visitors as possible.
Having said all that, if you really do want to download free Ipod song or two, there is a much safer option-there are a few legal free download sites springing up now, and it just goes to show that Itunes don’t have the monopoly. These sites are great-when you find one you are happy with you are basically set for life-don’t worry, I’ll show you where you can find the best ones in a second. There is a catch though, in that the sites have a small membership fee. The fee goes toward upkeep of their servers and stuff and also the music licenses etc. It’s usually between $20 and $50, and once paid enables you to log in and download anything you want at high speeds-music, movies, games, music videos even TV shows. Pretty cool I think you’ll agree, and it’s all unlimited on a lifetime membership basis, so your $20 investment can buy you thousands of downloads. Much cheaper than Itunes.
